When curbside yard waste pickup falls short
Most communities around Novi collect yard waste weekly in season, and for regular mowing and raking it works fine. It gets harder when there's a lot of it. Programs require kraft paper bags or labeled cans, and brush has to be cut and bundled. Farmington Hills, for example, limits bundles to under four feet and 60 pounds, with branches no thicker than six inches.
That's manageable for a weekend of pruning. It's a lot of cutting and tying for a storm-downed limb, a row of overgrown shrubs or a fall cleanup on a big lot. And once the season ends, there's no curbside pickup at all until spring.

Yard waste removal FAQ
When does curbside yard waste pickup end?
It depends on where you live. Around Novi, most programs run from early April into December, but the City of Northville ends November 30 and the City of Plymouth around the end of November. See the table on this page, and check your city's website for the current dates.
Do I need to bag or bundle everything?
No. That's one of the main differences from curbside pickup, which requires paper bags, labeled cans or bundles under certain lengths and weights. We can take loose piles of brush and branches as they are.
Can you take storm debris?
Yes. Downed limbs and branches after a storm are one of the most common yard waste jobs. Very large trunks or stumps depend on size, so describe them in the form.
Do you take dirt, sod or rocks?
Most city programs exclude dirt, sod and rocks. Describe the quantity in the form with a photo and we'll tell you whether we can take it.
Can you take old landscaping materials?
Yes. Old landscape timbers, broken planters, edging and similar leftovers from a yard project can go in the same trip.
