Curbside pickup or furniture removal?

Most communities in our area accept furniture through their regular trash service, so it's worth checking first. The real difference is who does the carrying, and in some places, who pays for a sticker.

What local trash programs do

  • Novi: household furniture is picked up on your collection day at no extra charge when you schedule it with Priority Waste
  • Northville and Commerce Township: furniture goes out with regular large-item pickup
  • Farmington Hills: furniture goes out on your regular day with no call needed
  • City of Plymouth: each piece needs a paid special refuse sticker from Municipal Services
  • Everywhere: you move it to the curb and wait for the truck

Furniture removal makes sense when

  • The piece is in a basement, upstairs or somewhere tight
  • It's too heavy to move safely, like a sleeper sofa or a solid wood armoire
  • You're clearing several rooms, not one item
  • You're in a condo or apartment without a curb of your own
  • You're moving out and it has to be gone by a certain day

How furniture removal works

  1. Send photos

One photo per piece and a note about where it is (basement, second floor, garage) is usually enough to quote.

  2. Confirm the price and a time

You'll know the price before we start.

  3. We carry it out

We take it out of the room and down the stairs, load it and haul it away. You don't have to move anything first.

Furniture removal FAQ

Can't I just put my old couch out for trash pickup?

Often you can. Novi, Northville, Commerce Township and most nearby communities accept furniture through their regular trash service. In the City of Plymouth you'll need to buy a special refuse sticker first. In every case, though, you have to get it to the curb yourself. Furniture removal makes sense when the piece is in a basement or upstairs, when there are several pieces, or when you can't wait for the pickup.

Do I need to move the furniture outside before you arrive?

No. Just tell us in the form where each piece is, like a basement family room or a second-floor bedroom, and we carry it out from there.

What about a sleeper sofa or a huge sectional?

Both are common. Sleeper sofas are heavier than they look because of the metal mechanism inside, and sectionals often come apart into pieces. Mention it in the form so we bring the right crew.

How is furniture removal priced?

By how much space the pieces take in the truck and how hard they are to reach. A single chair from a garage costs less than a sectional from a finished basement. Send photos and we'll quote it.

Can you take the rest of the room at the same time?

Yes. If you're clearing a room, add the mattress, the old TV stand, the boxes in the closet and anything else that's going. One trip is usually cheaper than several.
